EXHIBITION: WE GIVE MEANING TO SPACE
WE GIVE MEANING TO SPACE is an architecture exhibition by ArchiAfrika and Powerhouse Company featuring the work of Nanne de Ru (founding architect of Powerhouse Company) and young Ghanian architects jointly mentored by Powerhouse Company and ArchiAfrika.
In architecture, all the rigorous of academic studies are just the first baby steps in the training process. Work experience during or just after school is pivotal in shaping the young architect’s philosophy and career path.
Our exhibition honors two great architects who have influenced ArchiAfrika’s Internship Program in Ghana over the years: Nanne Le Rou and Amaechi Ndili. Nanne has employed many ArchiAfrika interns since 2015 at his office in Rotterdam. Amaechi has hosted ArchiAfrika at the Golden Tulip Hotel since our inception.

Join us at ArchiAfrika’s exhibition opening on February 26, 2022 at 6:30pm the Golden Tulip Hotel. The exhibition reception will include a panel discussion on the role of internships in architecture education.
Powerhouse Company
We are Powerhouse Company, an award-winning architecture office based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Our story begins in 2005. Newly founded back then, we operated from kitchen tables in Rotterdam and Copenhagen. We have since grown into a multidisciplinary office of around 100 professionals, with international studios in Beijing, Oslo and Munich. Along the way we have won a number of prizes, including the Dutch Design Award, the Maaskant Prize and the AM/NAI Award.
Powerhouse Company’s connection to Ghana has a long history that started with a friendship, turned into a knowledge exchange and is now evolving into new designs. The exhibition owes its architectural content to our collaboration with ArchiAfrika for hosting and sponsoring Ghanaian students in Rotterdam since 2015 The exhibition will be opened by our founding architect Nanne de Rue.
