Our Vision

Educators are innovators.

ArchiAfrika was founded in 2001 by a group of architects who, through the development of educational opportunity and economic growth on the continent, were eager to re-define the urban landscape of the African city.

ArchiAfrika’s vision has since evolved into broadening the discourse on Africa’s built environment to encompass the role of socio- cultural design inspired development. Its goal is to promote design strategies developed within the continent, which address the challenges of our future and engage the next generation of professionals.

ArchiAfrika strives to demonstrate that economic development in Africa can be sustainable, inclusive and socially relevant. Specifically, we seek to show how African cities and towns can be revitalized through a more integrated approach than the current erasure and rebuild paradigm. Rather, the most positive economic impact and development comes when we all “ENGAGE WITH THE EVERYDAY” by tapping into existing local resources.

Key Objectives and Activities

+ Contributing to the dialogue on the built environment in Ghana, starting with Accra, by hosting monthly discussion series with leading thinkers, industry leaders and creative people.

+ Maintaining a network among African architecture schools, in order to share ideas, resources and vision for architectural and design professions.

+ Designing new economic models for the creative industries in Ghana to benefit from new forms of financing for cultural and commercial activities.

+ Developing initiatives aimed at empowering those who operate within what is incorrectly referred to as the informal economy, using our creative foundation as a basis for a variety of different events, gatherings and urban interventions.
